Where Is The Handyman?

Escrow is supposed to close on Friday. I met with my handyman two weeks ago to go over the work that needed to be done. He told me it would take 1 day and that he could start the following day. He did mention he would be on vacation last week, but that still left him a full week before his vacation to get the job done.

I've called him Sunday, Monday, and today. All I get is his voicemail and he hasn't returned my messages. I haven't had a chance to go over to the house yet, so I don't know if anything has been done. This will probably be the last time I use him.

No kidding. Actually, this is a guy I have used in the past and on other houses. I know he's wildly optimistic with his time estimates, but I think this is the last straw. I told him when I was closing, so he knew there was a hard deadline. I also don't like the fact that he hasn't returned my calls for three days. I don't care if he is on vacation, he can still call me and give me a status update.

I've heard finding good contractors and the like is analagous to finding a needle in a field of haystacks. Hopefully, you'll get this resolved in time. Either way, I wouldn't hesitate on "firing" him, either.

I think it's more like finding a single blade of hay in a field of haystacks. They all look alike, smell alike, feel alike, and you don't know till you taste it if it's the one you want.
